No matter how much I loved the King, I still couldn’t get excited about the Elvis impersonator who was giving a special Christmas concert at a local church.

My beloved husband had passed away, and I was battling illness after illness. Some days I wondered how I could get through it all.

“Elvis is going to cheer you up,” my sister Gwen kept telling me. “I just know it!” I doubted it.

Gwen and I were the first ones to arrive and grabbed seats in the front row. Soon the church was full. I felt excitement in the air.

It’s almost like coming to see the real Elvis, I thought.

The impersonator hit the stage. He performed several of Elvis’s gospel hits and of course “Blue Christmas.” I found myself swaying with the music. Next came “Stand by Me.”

Elvis looked straight into my eyes. Tears streamed down my face. I felt like God was sending a message right to me. He wanted me to know he was by my side whatever happened.

After the concert Gwen and I introduced ourselves to Ron, the impersonator.

“My sister just lost her husband,” Gwen explained to him.

“My mother lost her husband a few years ago,” Ron said. “She made it through. You will too.”

For the first time I believed I would. Thanks to an angel dressed as a king.

Listen to the real Elvis sing "Blue Christmas."

Love your story! Please write more! So uplifting... God works in wondrous ways. Thanks for telling this story.

to all of you wonderful people that have responded on my sister jackie's story i want to say thank you for the positive encouraging words,it means so much because jackie is so very special to me,not only was i blessed to have one of the best sisters ever, but a friend as well, and when i say my friend,i mean that, she is and always had been someone i could always count on,no matter what, don't ever ask her opinion unless you can take the truth, but you know isn't that really what you would want. is someone you could depend on to be honest.for me to have a sister as close as jackie and i was,it hurt to see her go through the heartache ,the despair she was feeling with the loss of her husband frenchie ,they had a love for each other that was so strong that jackie felt lost without him so much she just wanted to sleep so she wouldn't feel the hurt, she would have mostly crackers and drink soda, because at that time she didn't care the love of her life was no longer with her and shedidn't know what to do.but you know what GOD knew, that is why i believe he used me as an instrument and laid it on my heart to get jackie to go to the ELVIS impersonator concert, because he had something in store for her that night(A NEW BEGINNING)!!!JACKIE IS NOT THE SAME WOMAN AS BACK THEN THAT SUNSHINE HAS COME OVER HER SHE NOW WEARS A BEAUTIFUL SMILE AND HER EYES ARE VERY BRIGHT AND SHINY,WHO KNOWS WHATS STILL TO COME,IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER,SHE DESERVES IT!GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AND THANKS FOR READING .GWEN

It is amazing how God chooses to speak to us sometimes. We only have to be open to hear Him. Thank you for sharing such a special moment in your life, Jackie.

DEAREST JACKIE, THANKS FOR SHARING SUCH AN INSPIRING DAY IN YOUR LIFE. I WAS SADDENED TO LEARN OF YOUR HUSBANDS PASSING AND YOUR MANY HEALTH ISSUES, BUT BY THE TIME I ARRIVED AT THE END OF YOUR STORY, I COULD FEEL YOUR RENEWED FAITH AND STRENGTH FLOWING THROUGH MY VERY SOUL. AH, I FELT THE FIRST BIT OF SUNSHINE PEEKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS WHEN YOU SPOKE OF YOUR SISTER GWEN PRODDING YOU TO CHEER UP AND I COULD STILL FEEL YOUR RESISTANCE IN ANYTHING CHEERING YOU UP. WHO COULD BLAME YOU?... THEN WHEN YOU AND GWEN GRABBED FRONT ROW SEATS AND YOU SPOKE OF FEELING THE EXCITEMENT IN THE AIR, THE CLOUDS STARTED ROLLING AWAY BECAUSE TO ME, I COULD FEEL YOUR SPIRIT STARTING TO LIFT. BY THE TIME "ELVIS" SANG "STAND BY ME", AND YOU SAID THE TEARS STARTING STREAMING DOWN YOUR FACE, I ALSO FELT TEARS ON MY FACE. I FELT AT THAT POINT IN YOUR STORY, THE CLOUDS WERE COMPLETELY GONE AND THE WARMTH OF THE SUN'S RAYS WERE BEAMING GOD'S LOVE AND MANY BLESSINGS UPON YOU. AFTER READING WHAT I JUST WROTE, I NOTICED HOW OFTEN I USED THE WORD FELT, AND STARTED TO CHANGE SOME OF THE WORDS A BIT, BUT GUESS WHAT??? NO WAY!!!! BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOUR STORY DID, MADE ME FEEL!!! MAYBE IT WAS "A SWIVEL-HIPPED EARTH ANGEL" THAT TOUCHED YOU THAT DAY, BUT YOUR STORY TOUCHED ME ON THIS DAY. MUCH LOVE AND MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU JACKIE!!!

Jackie, as always you are such an inspiration. Loved your "Elvis" story! Sometimes God does send Angels in the strangest situations to help us. So glad that Ron touched your heart! Love you!

Oh, this really touched me as well. Love and prayers to heal your heart, Jackie. I lost my dad on July 5th of this year. He loved Elvis as well and did many wonderful portraits of him. The day Dad passed my daughter found the Elvis song "Angel" (from "Follow that Dream")to send to me, and was so surprised to discover it had been recorded by Elvis exactly 50 years before - to the day. It felt like a sign from above that everything would be okay. Dad and I had been talking about this being our favorite Elvis movie just a few weeks before he passed. I believe things do happen for reasons to comfort us and strengthen our faith! Big Hugs to you, ~h~

I loved the story, but I especially got a kick out of the fact that the writer, on this religion-oriented site, referred to Elvis as "The King". You see, although it's not well known, Elvis was uncomfortable with being called The King.

"There can only be One King," he said. And with his gospel singing roots, there's no question what he meant by that.

What a delight that Elvis still inspires! You will survive; and you will thrive.

Jim, I agree with you there is only one King. I said Elvis in my article but the editor wrote King. I think it is just the fact that so many people referred to him as that. I know that God knows our hearts and because of this He who is the TRUE KING,the one and only King knows it was never meant as any disrespect to Him.I honestly believe that God used this man to encourage and uplift me at a time when I really was ready to give up on life.Thank you for your comment because someone else might have wondered the same thing. May God bless you and your family!{{{{Hugs}}}} <3 <3 <3

Elvis' gospel music is great. It is a shame how his life turned out after he started recording his music and making movies. I like to believe that Elvis remembered Jesus, his Lord and Saviour in his last hours and he is once again singing gospel music. It is never too late to seek out the Lord. I am sure Elvis knew that. Jackie may God bless you daily with the joy of the Lord. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

A lot of people do not know that Elvis's real goal in life was to be a gospel singer. After he was "discovered", he was pulled away from this goal. I think he was disappointed eventually that his life was spent so much as being just an item that others thought of and treated like an object rather than a caring human being.

I enjoyed this article! I can relate to it as I lost my wife a few years back and she loved Elvis! This is a very heart touching article!!!

Just Beautiful my dearest Jackie!!.. It touched my heart.. YOU will be fine.. you will see.. YOU have the King of Kings and Lord of Lords living in your heart.. God bless you my preciuos bff..I love YOU more!! :0) ♥♥♥
