A Pat on the Back from an Earth Angel

A harried bookstore clerk's day is made, thanks to some positive feedback.

Working at a bookstore is usually fun, but that day I was struggling. The questions kept coming.

“Where can I find the cookbooks?”

“You’re all out of coloring books!”

“Do you sell diaries? Calendars? Bookmarks?”

Some days I just felt burned out. I checked my watch, happy to see my break was coming soon.

A woman approached me. “How can I help?” I asked her.

“I’ve worked in the customer service business for ages,” she said, “so I know outstanding service when I see it.” She asked my name and drafted a letter of praise to give to my boss right there in the store.

As it turns out, I didn’t need a break after all. Kind words were much more rejuvenating.
