  • Positive Playlist: If You're Happy and You Know It...

“If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!” There’s something to that old childhood ditty. When you hear a song you can clap along to, don’t you immediately get happy? I do! Sometimes I even break out into a little dance. (Embarrassing but true.)

Even if I can’t actually clap my hands at that moment—like when Florence + the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” came on in spin class last night—I definitely get a positivity boost.

  • Positive Signs of the Times

Just when my normally positive attitude was wilting in this heat, I got a surprise that totally picked me up—an email from Michael, husband of my Angels on Earth colleague Tanya Richardson. Even though we have a great time talking when we see each other, I don’t think he’s ever emailed me.

  • Weekend Positivity

My high-school friend Adrienne and I haven’t seen each other in four years. I’m in New York, she’s in Illinois, we both have busy jobs, and she has two young children who, as she puts it, “can barely handle a two-hour car trip.” Finally we were going to get together for a girls’ weekend here in the city—a little shopping, some good eating (Momofuku, anyone?) and lots of catching up. At the last minute Adrienne had to cancel because her father-in-law had a health crisis. I said a prayer for Mr.
