  • Faith, Sacrifice, Spiritual Journeys and the Oscars

Insomniac that I am and this week being Academy Awards week as well as the first week of Lent, I was taken hostage by the Turner Classic Movies channel, which was showing inspirational and faith-filled movies that had won or been nominated for an Oscar.

I was about to go to bed the other night when I overheard the voice of TCM host Robert Osborne say, “ ... starring Jennifer Jones, Charles Bickford, Lee.J.Cobb and a young Vincent Price.”

  • Death of a Once-Inspiring Star

Tomorrow, at New Hope Baptist Church, in Newark, New Jersey, right across the Hudson River from where I sit, Whitney Houston will be laid to rest in a service conducted by pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans and attended by such luminaries as CeCe Winans, Aretha Franklin, Jesse Jackson, Kevin Costner, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and Chaka Khan.

  • Do You Want to Know a Secret?

In my book published by Guideposts last year, The Promise of Hope: How True Stories of Hope and Inspiration Saved My Life and How They Can Transform Yours, I shared inspiring stories of people who had overcome tremendous obstacles to do great things using faith, prayer and positive thinking.

  • Relapse Redux

Poor Josh Hamilton. He was such an inspiring story.

I checked my email this morning as soon as I turned off the alarm on my BlackBerry. Lying there in bed blinking the sleep from my eyes I stared at a headline: Baseball MVP Josh Hamilton Suffers Addiction Relapse. The 30-year-old slugger for the Texas Rangers took a drink in a Dallas bar before a teammate ushered him out. Hamilton reported the incident to Rangers management the next day.
