  • Pray and Expect God to Answer

Whenever I am preparing sermons, writing blogs or getting ready for anything that could be viewed or heard by others, I pray for spiritual guidance and clarity on the message.

Prayer for me is more than uttering a laundry list of things that I need from God. I believe that God requires something from me as well. If I only tell God what I want and don’t position myself to hear from God, the answer could very well come and be missed. I wrestle with the illusion of being too busy and becoming distracted by other voices.

  • How to Overcome Prayer Paralysis

Prayer paralysis is a phrase I use to describe the act of praying and praying but never getting up to do what the Lord reveals during prayer time.

  • Praying for Your Seed to Grow

I am not a gardener, nor do I like getting mud, dirt or seeds under my fingernails. However, I do like seeing the fruit of others’ labor.

I have neighbors who are out in early spring planting flowers, spreading mulch and watering seeds that grow into something beautiful I notice whenever I pass their homes. I don’t know whether or not my neighbors pray for the seeds to grow, but if so, I would certainly say that God answers their prayers.

  • Pray to Be a Good Follower

When I set out to take a trip or drive someplace for the first time, I like to follow someone who knows the way.

If I am traveling alone, I will search for directions online, although I have a GPS in my car. I was happy I had done this when I found myself in a situation where my GPS told me to get off at an exit that had been closed.

  • Pray for Spiritual Growth Through Trials

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:2-5)
