All About Angels

Writers Workshop

This is one of my favorite weeks at Guideposts. After spending a couple months reading thousands of manuscripts from hopeful contestants, we’ve narrowed down the finalists for our 2010 Writers Workshop to about 30 talented storytellers.

The team of judges will do a lot of thinking alone in their offices this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow morning’s long, intense meeting. We’ll each be ready to state our case for our favorite stories to make sure the best of the best get a spot in the final group of 15. Those lucky few will spend a week with us in Rye, NY, this fall, learning everything we know about inspirational writing. And that’s just the beginning. These “workshoppers” become part of the everyday work life of us Guideposts and Angels on Earth editors, as we depend on them to help us find and tell stories from all across the country. I know which 15 I want to invite. Now I just have to convince the other judges I’m right!

Colleen Hughes is the editor-in-chief of Angels on Earth. She's been at Guideposts for 20 plus years, and lives in a Hudson River town with her two daughters and two cats.

Thanks for the update! I really appreciate it. Since I'm not sure where else to leave this suggestion, I was wondering if there could be some sort of automated response for those who submit their writing via email. Or, perhaps have a page here on your website, with a form for writers to fill out and attach their written piece. Thank you!

Thank you all so much for your interest and submissions to the Writers Workshop. All the winners have been notified. If you are not one of this year’s participants, don’t give up. Guideposts runs these workshops every other year. We hope that you will re-enter next time.

Does anyone know if the winners have been announced? Are they announce on the website?

It seems a few of us here are still waiting to hear something. I thought the blog would be updated by now. I am starting to feel like if we haven't heard by now, we must not have made the cut. I am still trying to be hopeful, though. It is frustrating...the not knowing. I will be disappointed, but I believe it was well worth the try anyway! I will keep looking on the blog.

I think it's kind of ironic that they choose the 15 "best" entries and then teach them how to write. Wouldn't it make more sense to choose the 15 WORST writers? Perhaps then I'd have a chance :(

I'm sure yours is great! Everyone has a story to tell, but not everyone is brave enough to actually write it down and polish it up, and send it in! I'm sure the folks there that had to read all those stories had a tough job picking the 30, and even tougher job picking the final 15.

@ B Jones - I too was wondering if the winners have been notified, as I entered a submission as well. Each day I flip through the assorted envelopes in my mailbox hoping to see one from Guideposts! Until then, I suppose I'll keep checking here to see if winners are announced!

I was just wondering if the final 15 have been contacted for the Writer's Workshop. I submitted a story and have been anxiously awaiting news. I know you only contact the winners, so I'm a bit nervous. I have prayed for my story to inspire others. Has everyone been contacted already?
