Prayers Needed

A quick hello from Birmingham, Alabama, where I will be speaking and signing copies of my book, The Promise of Hope, at the Books-A-Million store at Brookwood Village, from 7 to 9 pm tonight.

I am really enjoying my brief stay here, and not just because of the perfect spring weather. It's good old Southern hospitality that makes this part of the country perfect almost any time of the year.

But parts of the South, particularly Alabama, have suffered terribly in the wake of the horrific storms that hit here recently. Scores were killed and thousands are homeless. This is their Katrina, their September 11, and I am not sure the rest of the country fully realizes this. And now come the floodwaters along the Mississippi and other major waterways. Things are not going to get any easier.

That's why I am so moved by the optimism and faith and goodwill that the folks here continue to exhibit in the face of such tragedy. It's what we saw in New York after the Twin Towers attack. And we will see it again in the challenges that the future holds for us all.

Don't forget these folks in your prayers. Guideposts Outreach is doing everything possible to get our literature to the 350 churches affected in the devastated areas and you can read a story from one of our contributors, Ginger Rue, whose church was destroyed in a tornado. Go to OurPrayer.org to add your voice to the chorus of prayer going out for the people of Alabama and other affected areas.

Meanwhile I hope to meet a lot of you from the Birmingham area tonight at Books-A-Million and tomorrow at Barnes & Noble on San Jose Blvd. in Jacksonville, Florida, at 3 pm.

Your Comments

Dear Edward,
Thank you so much for writing your story in "The Promise of Hope". I just finished reading it. I had no idea you had gone through so much in your life. I've walked a similar path. Guideposts helped me see how hopeless I had become; but also gave me strength to change my ways. I have been a subscriber for years. I came to understand and recognize that God has been watching over me since I was a child and continues to guide me daily. I have NO doubt that I was meant to read your book just as I have no doubt you were meant to write it. Thank you. May God continue to bless us both. And I have been and will continue praying for all those touched by the storms and floods.
Sincerely, Linda

Dear Edward,
Thank-you for the call for prayer for Alabama and other parts of the South. You're right; I don't think most people in the rest of the country yet realize how bad it is.
I live in South Alabama, and while we escaped the worst of the storm, it has still affected many people that I know. Many folks around here have relatives and friends in North Alabama. Our church has been sending teams to Tuscaloosa and Birmingham with much needed supplies. Everyone is trying to help as much as they can.
Blessings on you and all those at Guideposts and Angels on Earth.
Diane

Dear Edward'
I can't express enough thanks for " The Power of Hope"
I'm so glad you told your story, too, for a lot of it is so close to my own...

It was no co-incidence this book came into my life when it did. God saw to that.

I wish you every good thing and want you to know that your book touched and changed me. Awesome.

J.Rose
