Inspirational Anticipation

I was confident God would give me some difficulty to write inspiringly about. But God let me down this time. Or did he?

Guideposts Editor-in-Chief Edward Grinnan and his dog, Millie

I apologize for being late with this blog but there is a good reason I waited: I thought I was going to have some great, inspiring material.

Usually I write my blog on Thursday night or Friday but this was a busy week. Our May redesign issue of Guideposts went on press, the June issue was shipped to the printer and we finished a new issue of Mysterious Ways magazine and are getting ready to ship those files as well. And this weekend we hold a Guideposts mini-workshop for writers who have gone through our big biannual workshop, sponsored by our friend Debbie Macomber. Which is why I am writing from Memphis.

I had another reason for waiting to write this. I figured something might happen in my travels here that I could tell you about. I mean, a couple of workshops ago I spent seven hours delayed in Washington, D.C. Frustrating, right? But it turned into an opportunity to find some inspiration to write about. I mean, travel is a real headache these days and almost always something goes wrong, no matter how diligently I pray for safe and uneventful travels. So I figured this time would be no exception. Some minor travel disaster would turn into an interesting encounter or have a mysterious turnaround. I was totally confident God would give me some difficulty to write inspiringly about. But God didn’t come through. He let me down this time.

Or did he? The weather leaving New York was good. My golden retriever Millie didn’t get upset when she saw me leaving the apartment with my suitcase. She just went back to bed with her momma. The car service was waiting just when it said it would be. The airport wasn’t too crowded and the flight left on time. Memphis is lovely and the Peabody Hotel (Millie would like the ducks swimming in the lobby fountain) is wonderful. I didn’t even forget to bring anything.

So maybe this time all I have to write about is my thankfulness for a smooth and safe trip. It’s so rare that something doesn’t go wrong that I almost forgot to be inspired and grateful for safe travels. Which is exactly what I prayed for, right?

What worries do you have when you travel? Post below please. Happy trails y’all from Memphis. It’s nice to be in the South again.
