Glimpses of Heaven

His Son Came to Bring Him Home to Heaven

Frank was a 68-year-old man recently diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer when I first visited with him and his wife. It was just the two of them, and the calm and peaceful way they accepted the inevitability of his death was amazing to see.

You had the sense that death was not new to them or that they had come close to it before. In time I discovered that they had lost their only son in combat in Vietnam and because they were both believers, they knew they would see him again.

Just a few weeks after Frank was diagnosed I was sitting with him when he turned to me and said, “My son, John, is here with me now; he said it’s time for me to go. Can you see him? He’s sitting over there in the chair; he is beckoning for me to go with him.”

He was sitting up in bed looking not at all like someone who was about to die. I replied that I could not see John but asked him to tell me how he looked. He explained in detail that he looked very handsome, was dressed in his uniform and was smiling. Frank and John had enjoyed a very close and trusting father-son relationship in life and now that he’d seen his son, Frank seemed totally unafraid to leave life as he knew it and go with him.

It was amazing to see Frank’s joy, and although his wife was very sad at the thought of losing him, she thought it wonderful that John had come for his dad. They knew they would be in heaven together for all eternity.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of ways God brings comfort to His children as He draws them home. Frank died in his sleep just a few nights later at peace with both his life and his impending death.

Thank you Guideposts for your prayers for my circumstances. They have meant so very much to me. I am very much alone and need to know sometimes that I am really not as alone as I think. Although circumstances right now are very hard when I read about others who have or who are going through difficulties and how the Lord is uplifting them, it encourages and uplifts me. I hope sometime I will be able to do the same for someone.

I am praying for you, Dolores, as I am sure are many other readers. I believe that when times get really difficult, even the strongest of believers sometimes feel that God is far away, or just not listening; that no matter how much or how deeply we pray, God just isn't there. But you know, God has not turned away from us during these times. This is when He most wants to be close to us! God is always with us. There is never a moment when we are alone or unheard by the Creator. There are times, however, when we think we are alone, but that may be because we are so busy praying AT Him, we can't hear Him. God has never left, or stopped listening. Even when I feel most alone and unsure, it is by faith that I know He is near me, even though I cannot see Him. And what's more, He is in control of whatever situation I find myself in, good or bad. You can believe that He is near you too, Dolores, wherever you are, whatever you may need. God is in control. Isaiah 46:3-4 says, "Listen to Me...you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you." Don't ever stop praying, Dolores, God DOES hear you, and He will carry you through whatever happens. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear....The Lord Almighty is with us." Psalm 46:1-2,7.

I AM SO HAPPY THAT THE GOOD LORD HAS ANSWERED PRAYERS FOR OTHERS. IT IS GOOD TO SEE THE RESULTS OF PRAYERS FROM
OTHER PEOPLE WHO LOOK TO THE LORD FOR HELP.
I WISH IT COULD BE THE SAME FOR ME.
I PRAY TO NO AVAILE TO OUR LORD BUT IT DOES NOT COME.
I LIVE MY LIFE AS THE GOOD LORD WANTS US TO, BUT NOW I SEEM TO HAVE LOST FAITH & MY PRAYERS ARE SOMEHOW NOT
ANSWERD. I NEED OTHERS TO PRAY FOR ME!! GOD BLESS

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I agree with Sherri's reply-- God really touched my heart from the ND testimonies in the books He led you to write.. This incident is also beautiful- thanks so much for sharing it with us!.
