From The Headlines: An Accident on Purpose, and a Traveling Bible
There have been some great stories in the news since my last Mysterious Ways blog post. Stories that definitely show that more than coincidence is at work in our lives.
Man Crashes Car, To Save Another Man’s Life
Duane Innes was driving family and friends in his minivan, headed to a Seattle Mariners game, when a truck drifted across his lane. Duane swerved, narrowly avoiding an accident. When Duane looked through the driver’s side window, he saw a man slumped over the wheel.
The out-of-control truck sideswiped a concrete barrier and picked up speed as it continued to drive down the shoulder…straight towards a busy intersection.
“I’m going to get in front of him,” Duane told his passengers.
Duane sped up his minivan, passed in front of the truck, and slowed down enough for the truck to hit his rear bumper. Then Duane pressed the brake, and the two vehicles rolled to a stop.
The driver of the truck, an 80-year-old man, had suffered a heart attack earlier, and the poor circulation had caused him to pass out, foot on the gas.
But it had happened in view of Duane Innes, a manager of Boeing’s F22 fighter-jet program, a man who knew this:
“Basic physics,” Duane told The Seattle Times, “If I could get in front of him and let him hit me, the delta difference in speed would just be a few miles an hour and we could slow down together.”
Most people would avoid an accident with an out-of-control car. But in this situation, perhaps the only man who knew what to do was in the right place, at the right time.
Then there’s this story from British Columbia, Canada: The Bible That Came Home Again.

Great to hear this mysterious story from you..Sometimes this kind of stories made me think that ..GOD resides in all of us. We can do protect "LIFE BY LIVE." We must aware that driving safely is really important. Not trying to avoid an accident by buying a

One thing that I always tell people about my life, is that I've learned that NOTHING happens by accident to a child of God. I once made a list of the 12 times I should have died or ended up permanently handicapped.
God is in control.
Thank you, thank you for all the wonderful inspiring stories... I have subscribed to both magazines (Guideposts & Angels) for years and never throw them away as I re-read them again and again.... Just recently I finally parted with some of my older magazines and gave them to a group of women to which I belong too (AWOG) American Women's Organization of Greece with the promise that they also pass along the magazines to someone else... Blessings to all..
I have always loved reading 'His Mysterious Ways.' They are so inspiring to read. At times I read one that can help me at that very moment. I also love reading the "One minute Devotions", as they are very meaningful to me. I have the 2010 one, so would love to win the 2011 one!
I have always enjoyed the mysterious ways true stories. They are very faith inspiring!
Thanks for all the great comments! "Goonybird," thanks for sharing your story!
I love reading the Mysterious Ways stories. I haven't read any in a while, but when I was upstairs earlier I figured maybe I should. I am glad I did, this story was truly inspiring.
I believe that we should act on urges in our hearts/minds to do good for others. It could well be that our action is a God-initiated response to someone's need or prayer. At the very least, when we care enough to get involved, we are demonstrating Jesus' love (Love one another. Love your neighbor as yourself.) Hard to go wrong by following that philosophy! I praise God for His guidance and lovingkindness.
Things always work out in God's time.
God is so good! Thank you for sharing your stories!
What a miracle! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story!
This story is a great example of how quick rational thinking saved a man's life. Just imagine if Duane Innes stopped to pray for the elderly gentleman instead of acting on a rescue plan. The gentleman would certainly have crashed and possibly have died.
The Mysterious Ways stories are some of my favorite ways to hear how active God is in our daily life. That God is in the details and really Loves us.
I love the Mysterious Ways stories! They fascinate me. There are no such things as coincidences - just God at work!
My dear father-in-law, DJ, died January 16 2000 at 9:50 pm. We (wife, sons and families, sister and nephew and family) were sitting around his bed when he took his last breath. A few minutes later we all started making the phone calls to the rest of the family, and I called his sister-in-law Carmel (my mother-in-law's sister). She and DJ were very close, and he used to fix her broken stuff for her (he could fix anything!). She had a grandfather clock, and every year he would tune it up and wind it for her. A few years before, it had stopped chiming, but still ran. When I called her up to tell her he had passed away, she asked me what time he died, and told her. She said that her grandfather clock had chimed one time, the same time he died! Coincidence? Nope!
Great story! There are still people in this world that will sacrifice for a stranger!
