Prayer for Growing in Christ

God is interested in hearing our prayers on a continual basis. In fact, I believe He is interested in all aspects of our lives, and there is nothing too small for God’s ears. I have learned to pray about everything, although there was a time when I thought I could handle the small stuff myself.

My most confident times of prayer are when I read a promise or an expression of God’s will during moments of uncertainty, and I pray like I am accepting God’s offer of blessing. It reminds me that God anticipated my need long before I knew there was one.

The scripture that inspires and motivates me in this is in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” I don’t always feel God at work in me, but the work has begun and is ongoing. It is like knowing that a seed has been planted in the ground. It will start out covered and unseen, but eventually there will be glimpses of fruit.

The seed needs water to grow, but the one who planted it can neglect offering the necessary nutrients. It is so refreshing to know that God does not withhold any good thing from me. His word provides the water that is needed for my personal growth. To grow what God has planted in me, I have committed to reading scripture and praying daily. As I pray, my confidence and strength are fortified through faith.

My goal is to be a person of faith. I am not talking about faith to just believe in God, but faith to believe and act like God’s Word is true. My actions demonstrate what I believe. I want to practice praying like everything depends on God and working like everything depends on me. I will acknowledge the work that God is doing in me and celebrate it as a gift that I must use to bring glory and honor to Him.

My prayer points for those who believe that a good work has begun in us are:

  1. Acknowledge that our gifts and talents are from God.
  2. Seize every opportunity to enhance and perfect those gifts.
  3. Pray and thank God for the gifts
  4. Believe that God has given His word to refresh us each day, like watering a seed.

On July 24, 2012, we invite you to join us for Personal Growth Day of Prayer. We want to pray for you, your friends and your loved ones. Tell others about it and join us at OurPrayer.

God bless you!

Please Pray my daughter and son-in-law and grandkids will start to show my Mom & I how much they love us. It hurts when my daughter doesnt want anyone to know my dad is helping to bring them home for a visit. It hurts when my daughter doesnt let on to anyone all the help my mom has done for them and It hurts my son-in-law wont allow her to brag about us the way she brags about her father and his mother when they never have done what we have for them. They even are going to visit my son-in-laws step-dad who was mean to my son-in-law. My dau. told my mom my son-in-law only talks to us, so he wont hurt our feelings. Pray my daughter will become sweeter and more appreciative of this family and Pray my son-in-law will be too. Thank you Amen
