Raising Teens in Today’s World

Our new blog for parents and grandparents of teenaged girls

The cast of Today's Girls with Terry Squires, center

Over the years, many people have asked me why I named my book and TV series as well as my ministry Today’s Girls. My answer is simple. There will always be today’s girls. Today’s girls will never end. Our issues and technology change and the years pass, but tomorrow will bring another today.

In every new era, today’s girls will face new challenges–challenges that I’ll be discussing weekly as I also encourage you, as parents and grandparents, to make an impact in the lives of your teen daughter or granddaughter.

However, these challenges are also similar to all challenges we face throughout our lives, no matter what generation we belong to.

When I was a teenager, I didn’t have all the issues that challenge teen girls in today’s society, like cyber technology or online bullying, but I did struggle with feelings that are felt by all individuals, feelings we, as girls and women, all hold inside at one time or another.

I asked myself the same questions that girls do today. Do I matter? Am I worthy? Am I loved? As the years passed and I grew in my faith, my questions were answered. Yes, I do matter. I am worthy. I am loved. We all are, and God doesn’t want us to settle for less than all the love he has put into our lives for us.

I am just one ordinary woman, and God has called me to lead a life of helping teens develop their relationship with God and helping their parents guide them toward that most crucial of relationships.

This desire to aid others came about from years of interacting with God on my own journey. I was once a registered nurse specializing in the critical, intensive and emergency care of the human physical heart, but God had other plans for my life.

He pulled me into an unknown territory of writing and ministry, where I am now specializing in the critical, intensive and emergency care of the spiritual hearts of others. Through my journey with Him, I am now sharing with you, Today’s Girls–Raising Teens in Today’s World.

You and your teen daughter or granddaughter have also been called to make a difference and go forth on your own unique journey with God. Through my Guideposts blog, I hope to guide you in open and faith-building discussions with your daughters and granddaughters, to build them up in their love of God.

There is strength in numbers. Let’s do this together, starting with one “today” at a time.

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come. (Psalm 71:18, NIV)
