Daily Devotion: Trust Jesus
A prayer for God's wisdom leads to a lesson on trusting Jesus.
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalm 90:12 (NLT)
One morning recently, I woke up later than usual. I washed my face and trudged to the kitchen for my morning fix of caffeine.
On most mornings, my usual wake-up prayer has often included, “Lord, give me wisdom. Help me to live this day for You.” But as soon as the coffee started filling the cup, before I could utter that prayer, something strange happened. The room started spinning and looked like a spotted photo negative.

I grabbed the refrigerator door handle and held on, calling to my husband. It felt like something was sucking the life out of me. I had no idea what was happening, but it was scary, to say the least. The episode lasted only a few minutes. But it felt like hours.
When the paramedics arrived, I learned that my pulse and blood pressure had plunged dangerously low, leaving little oxygen to the brain. Four hours and a battery of tests later at the local ER, the doctor pronounced me healthy and released me, suggesting I follow up with my primary physician.
I did so, but again, they found nothing. Following that incident, I definitely told Jesus He had my attention. “Jesus, are you trying to teach me something here?” Sometimes when I’ve asked that, He answers clearly. But some experiences, like this one, I can only wonder—and trust.
But maybe that’s what Jesus wants me to do all the time: to trust Him—even when I don’t understand. Hmm. Maybe Jesus answered my unspoken prayer that morning after all. For sure, life—and loved ones—suddenly became even more precious to me. My relationship with Jesus grew sweeter. And my desire to trust Him for wisdom spiked.
Faith step: In what areas do you need Jesus’ wisdom? Assure Him of your trust today.
