Pass It On: Vision Plan

They learned that blindness in a child could be prevented with just a small donation, and they set out to make a difference.

Did you know that 60 cents can change a child’s life? My husband, Henry, and I didn’t either, until we came across Christian Blind Mission International. Vitamin A deficiency has been a leading cause of preventable blindness in children. For just 60 cents, CBM delivers a year’s dosage to a child in need.

Henry and I issued a challenge to church groups—provide vitamin A for one child with 60 pennies, for five children with 30 dimes, or for 10 kids with 24 quarters—and passed out prescription bottles to collect the change in. We called our project Bottle Up Blindness.

Our first year we raised $5,410, helping 9,016 kids. We nearly doubled that by the next year. We’re proud to say our project has raised $18,412, saving the vision of 30,686 children. It’s amazing how quickly small change can add up!

To support CBM’s work with children living with disabilities, in Canada go to cbmcanada.org or in the United States go to cbmus.org.
