Dorothy's Ring

When my friend lost her diamond ring, she feared she’d lost her last connection to the two most important people in her life

Dorothy was a casual friend I hadn’t seen in a while. So I was both surprised and pleased when I walked into the San Marcos jury selection room and spotted her. It’ll probably take hours for the two sides to select a jury, I thought, making my way to the empty seat beside her. At least I’ll have someone to talk to.

We chatted a bit, catching each other up on our lives. When lunchtime arrived and the bailiff announced a recess, we strolled outside.

“My, what a gorgeous ring,” Dorothy remarked, gazing at my engagement ring. She ran her right hand over her bare ring finger. “I had a beautiful diamond engagement ring. After my husband died, I added two diamonds to it that belonged to my mother. That ring meant everything to me.”

“What happened?” I asked.

“I lost it a year ago,” Dorothy told me. She’d been playing golf, and the ring was pinching her finger. She’d removed it and slipped it into her pocket. It disappeared.

We returned to the jury selection room. A short time later, I was dismissed. I said goodbye to Dorothy.

“Want to hear a sad story?” I asked my husband, James, when I got home. He was at the sink, preoccupied with cleaning something. It looked like a small hunk of mud.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“I’m not sure, help me wash it off,” he said. I went to the kitchen, filled a bowl with soapy water and dropped the hunk in. I grabbed a small brush and started scrubbing. After a minute or so, a flash of gold appeared. I scrubbed some more.

Soon I saw the unmistakable glimmer of a diamond. “It’s a ring!” I said. When it was all clean, I held it aloft. Three beautiful diamonds, a large one in the center with a pair of smaller, matching ones on either side.

“Where did you find this?” I asked.

“On the golf course,” James answered. “The boys and I played a round today. I bent down to fix a divot and noticed there seemed to be something more there.”

I got out the phone book. “Dorothy,” I said, when she picked up, “tell me again what your lost ring looks like.”

She began to describe it. But I already knew. “Come on over,” I said. “I’ve got something for you.”

What an amazing and heartwarming story! Thank you for sharing. God is so good:)

Everytime I think of Dorothy and her lost ring I am reminded of how much God loves us and wants us to have the desires of our heart. I am sure that God had that whole day planned out!

I truly love Guideposts and I certainly appreciate Mysterious Ways - I am always lead to read the articles posted in this category, because at the time of the reading it always cements my faith walk in Christ, and that is all I need to continue my journey of faith. Thanks Guideposts.

Years ago we used to subscribe to "Guideposts". I guess
time got tight for us, anyway dropped it. We enjoy
it on our email. But, you saw that coming. Why do you make
it so hard to read "His Mysterious Way". It is cut into,
click here, click there and maybe you find the end of the
fine stories.

Some people must have more time to jump throught all the
"Hoops". So I am sorry to say you may drop us from your
email list.

I am not at all surprised. When dealing with God all things are possible. A song comes to mind that I like, " Nothing Is Impossible When You Put Your Faith In God ".

Oh my goodness! What are the chances of this happening? God was truly involved in this!

What a miracle! God truly does work in mysterious ways!

I especially loved this story.
My dad passed away on may first this year.
I was given his diamond ring and i lost it somehow on a birthday brunch cruise my son gave me for my birthday.
I called and sadly no one had found it or turned it in.
I am thinking it slipped off in the rest room when i washed my hands.

It gives me hope that maybe some day i will get it back.
I am so happy this lady has gotten hers back.

Hugs

I am saddened to say that I will no longer be able to read my mysterious ways and other newletters sent to my online as they come in and since they will build up in my inbox I will have to delete them if I cannot get on a PC often enough. You see, I am living with family now and my PC is in storage. I have been reading your mail on my phone....this past couple of months I cannot read the complete article so I never have an ending to the article/story. I do not know what kind of changes you have done but I will have to stop receiving messages from you because I cannot leave them in my inbox cluttering it up until I can get to a PC. I will just have to log in WHEN I can which will not be too often because when I do get time on a PC it is limited and I have many things to attend to when I do. Now I must go and find the subscription option. I have read Guidepost for decades, my mother would subscibe to you for me and then I had the computer. I do not have funds to subscribe as my income is very limited. I have always found great inspiration in Guidepost, even when times have been very difficult.

I am sorry for the mix up with the last comment, it was meant for the staff and has no reflection on this story at all.

Beautiful story too! One year on that golf course and of all people to find it! God is so loving!
