Mysterious Ways: The Snow Man
When the snow forced us off the road, I didn’t know how I’d get my two babies home. Until a mysterious stranger pulled up.
WEB EXCLUSIVE
The snow often fell hard and heavy during the winters I lived in Colorado. It was coming down like crazy one afternoon when my boss closed the office and sent us home. I hurried to my car. I had to stop at the sitter’s house to pick up my two baby boys.
I made it the sitter’s house without too much trouble. “Be careful,” she said, as I strapped Nick, six months old, and Jon, 22 months old, into the backseat of the car.
“You know I will,” I said.
But almost as soon as her house was out of sight, the wind picked up and the snow began to swirl. My wipers fought to keep the windshield clear. I was tempted to pull over, but didn’t dare. With the babies aboard, I couldn’t afford to get stuck.
I kept moving, going slower and slower, trying to peer through the blinding snow. Without any help from me, the car came to a stop. “Don’t worry,” I told the children. “Mommy’s just going out to take a look, to see where we are.”

I opened the door. The wind almost knocked me off my feet. I fought my way around to the front of the car. I’ve driven into a snowdrift, I realized.
I climbed back into the car. What to do? I was half a mile from home, on a little-traveled road, without a cell phone. No way could we sit and wait for help. The babies would freeze half to death. No way could I carry them home. I closed my eyes and silently prayed, Lord, please help us.
I heard tapping at my window and opened my eyes. A big man was standing outside, dressed in denim overalls and a green plaid shirt. “Do you need help?” he asked.
“I have to get my babies home,” I said.
“Good thing I have a truck,” he said. He hoofed back to his old, green pickup, tied one end of a yellow tow rope to my car and the other end to his truck. Then he climbed behind the wheel and started his engine.
He pulled us several streets, even turned down my block and parked right in front of our house! So nice of him to go out of his way, I thought. While he untied the rope, I checked on Nick and Jon. Both were fast asleep. I turned back to thank the man … but he was gone. I looked down the street. Not a tire track in the virgin snow.
It was then that it struck me—I never even told the man where I lived.
How could he have known?

Thank u Jesus we love u Lord God.You are always with us.
There have been many times in my life where I have been in a very dangerous situation and I knew it was the power of God that saved me and my family. Many years ago my family and I were in a boat coming in from fishing in the ocean. We were late coming in along with the high tide. We had to go through an inlet where there were cross currents. The water was rough and a large wave was about to cap over our small boat. My daughter was sitting in the seat in the back and I looked and was so scared, the oldest son was helping my husband navigate through the markers in the channel. It was very noisy.I grabbed his shirt and pointed to the wave about to cap. He told my husband "Daddy hit it." Our small boat went through the rough current safely. There is no doubt in my mind that God was in control. I had prayed feverishly all the way in because I could see the large waves churning up ahead. I had asked my husband to go on down the shore to another entry but he said we did not have enough gas left. Thank you God for saving my family.
I have had two near death experiences and each time I called on the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and he saved me each time. I thank GOD for his sending of Jesus so that we might be SAVED !!!!!
Beautiful story about an angel among us. I had forgotten how they are here to help us too so this story came at the perfect time!
this gave me goosebumps..I love his mysterious ways.I read guideposts when I go to my doctor or I pick them up at the thirft store...
Our God is a wonderful loving God!
God sent and angel to save my daughters life. My daughters were walking home from school and were almost to the house; when a car sped up and attempted to run them over. My oldest daughter, Jen, pushed her younger sister, Becki, out of the way of the car. Jen had no time to get out of the way of the car, which appeared to be deliberately attempting to run them over. At that precise moment when the car should have struck her and it was close enough to see the occupants, the car stopped and the tires were smoking. Jen looked and saw an angel holding back the car. The driver of the car was stunned and looked like he could see the angel, also. Surprisingly, no one was hurt and never again did this particular vehicle speed down that road. Whenever he would pass our house, he would slow down all the way. God sent his angel to protect my children and it is something I will never forget.
I am 68 yrs old i remember when i was eight years old i saw 5 angels above my bed.
and ever since then God has sent his angels to me numerous times,i did not see the angels ,but i knew it was God who sent them, because my life was saved.
re: to the snowman story. this correction is made in order to find out how many others have experienced angelic intervention as my daughter has. would like to hear from anyone. God Bless everyone at Guideposts and thank you for all the encouraging stories.
Thank God for Guideposts Magazine and all publications that allows the information of how God works to millions of people all over the world. As the Scripture says, we can never go anywhere that God cannot find us. He can do anything needed to remedy any situation at any time. He is not hindered by any lack of any kind. That is mind-boggling and how precious that the greatest thing He has is unconditional love for everyone. What a hope that is and it will never expire.
I've been reading Guideposts since the early 60's. Love all the stories but Mysterious Ways has always been a favorite!!
Thanks for your Christian magazine!! So wonderful to have wonderful faith-based stories to read in light of all that we have going on in this world.
By the way, I always subscribe for Guideposts for my two daughters every Christmas and have been doing this for years. They both love it!!
What a blessing Jesus is he will never leave us stranded God bless you and the baby boys.
Tears come to my eyes but that man was from God and Angel watching over you and babys
With God nothing is impossible.
I concur. According to St. Mark 10:24. Hebrews 13:2 tells us, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
I love these accounts of God intervening on behalf of man.
WOW! When I read this, chills went through me. I hardly know what to say. Clearly, life can be very mysterious. Just proves that we are watched over, looked after, protected, and blessed. God knows how to keep the awe alive in our hearts.
Just like the Lord -- and His staff!
God is the answer to any/all problems. there isnt anything he cant do. just remember it happens when its suppose to not when you want it to. LIVE, LAUGH, AND LOVE. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE MISERABLE.
When we cry out for help the Lord will always hear us. He will never leave us standing alone. He loves us and will forever take care of us in any sitution. I just thank Him for always hearing me and you!!!
