The Shout That Saved Me

I heard him call my name...

In northeast Scotland, where I live, the Gulf Stream brings warmth to what would otherwise be a frigid climate—but it can also cause high winds. One day the weather service reported gusts topping 100 miles an hour. I almost blew away when I left for work that morning.

Fortunately, I would be spending most of my day inside at my new job assisting John, a mortgage and financial services broker. I sat at my desk, looking out the large front window, awed by the sheer power of Mother Nature. Were the brick chimneys of the old houses around us actually swaying? Historic Flemish buildings from the eighteenth century lined our street, and our office was a “gable ender,” a one-story house down a long alleyway surrounded by taller residences.

“I don’t like the way that old chimney is moving about,” John said. So my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.

“I’m sure it’s nothing,” I said. “These places have outlasted centuries of winds worse than this.”

John disappeared around the corner into our tiny kitchen. I picked up my pen and got to work, entering appointments into his desk diary.

“Joyce?” I heard John call.

“Yes?” I said. There was no response.

I got up and walked down the hall to see what he wanted. Just as I turned into the kitchen…. Boom! Smash! I heard the most deafening crash. It felt like the whole building was going to collapse around us. John and I huddled against the wall. Finally the rumbling stopped. We gathered up the courage and made our way to the front of the office.

The chimney stack of the building across the alley had tumbled down and smashed through the window by my desk. Shattered glass everywhere, bricks strewn across the desktop. I moved one of the bricks. Underneath was a black smudge on the desk—where the pen I’d been using had been flattened. John and I stood in shock.

I broke the silence. “John, I don’t know what to say. If you hadn’t called me, I would have been hurt.”

John stared at me, confused. “But I didn’t call you. It was a surprise when you came into the kitchen.”

Surprise wasn’t quite the word I would use.

All we have to do is have Faith and trust God.
Jesus said, Trust me. We do not need anything else. Is that simple.
If we trust the Lord all things are going to be better.
Leave everything on his hands, He is the only One who can help us.
Just trust God.
May He bless you all.

Marypa thank you for the lovely words and I am sure that the Lord is with me and I have nothing to worry about, but you know how it is when something is always on your mind, you are right if it wasn't so bad on me as a mother I can rest my mind cause God do care about us and what is going on with us,but I do beleive he will work thing out fore us and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in jesus name we give him all the praise amen.Dianne

Wow, talk about divine intervention! Praise God!

Years ago when my husband and I moved to an area in the county where homes were built on half acre lots. He decided to plant eucalyptus trees across the front, one side and across the back of our yard. Eucalyptus trees grow fast and it wasn't long before they were tall and gave us a lot of shade. One day while we were in the lower back yard working, he was midway across the yard digging up weeds underneath one of the trees. I was at the other end of the yard trimming some shrubs. I was having difficulty with the trimmer and kept telling him. He kept shouting, "I can't hear what you're saying." Finally he stepped out from underneath the tree and came towards the area where I was, just as a large branch from the tree broke and fell in the area where he had been working. Immediately we decided to have all the eucalyptus trees removed. Later we learned that for no apparent reason, that happens often with eucalyptus trees. People have been injured and killed by falling branches, homes and vehicles damaged.

This is a great story I need a shout out like the one that save you.I am so worries about get help for my family and I that I can't sleep to well at night from worries. My wish for christmas is that God will resuce me from all of this and give me a break from worries in jesus name I pray that help will come to us,Amen.Dianne

dear Pink 50
It is understandable that you feel "worry" for your family, but you can also pray to feel "concerned" & let the Lord take away the worry... you put the burden upon His shoulders & expect that he is able to take good care of your loved ones.
I'm sure you know that & are trying already ... may be when you feel worried you can sing a special song like "His eye in on the sparrow & I know He watches me (them)"
I will pray for you & wish you a happy Christmas and New Year
