Prayer for a Feather
I was stressed. Burnt out. Where was God's grace when I needed it?
WEB EXCLUSIVE
Gym time! I hopped on the StairMaster and pounded the steps, determined to work off my stress. As a sales rep, I was pulling long, demanding hours to finish up a huge year-end project. The pressure was on. I’d never felt so in over my head! I talked to God about it, but it seemed like the more exhausted I was, the farther away he felt. Was he even listening?
Just then, a friend’s advice came to mind: “You, know, Shannon,” she’d said, “If you’re in need of God’s assurance, you can ask him for a sign that he’s with you.” Can’t hurt, I thought. I knew what I wanted to ask for.
Lord, if you’re listening, I prayed in between steps, I’d like to see a feather by the time I get home tonight. I’ve always loved feathers. There’s just something so exquisite, so delicate about them. Something that inexplicably brings me comfort.
After my workout, I headed to my car and scanned the ground for a feather. Nothing. I drove up to my condo, parked, and walked across the grass. Wait! What was that? It looked like a feather was on the ground up ahead. I ran over--but no luck. Just a feather-like leaf. By the time I’d reached my door my hopes were all but dashed. I looked, one last time, around a big evergreen tree. Nothing there either. Maybe this whole sign thing was silly.
“Okay, Lord,” I said, “I don’t need you to send me a sign. Even without a feather, I know you’re always with me.”
Inside, a box was sitting on the table—a birthday present from my best friend. Well, if I didn’t find a feather at least I had a gift to open.
I tore off the paper and burst into tears. There, in my hands, was a beautiful Native American dream catcher…a dream catcher covered in soft, fluffy feathers. God was listening. I didn’t have to wonder anymore.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story.
You really know how to "pick a guy up."
I too love the feather story, also the fox story. I have been given "signs' often, usually by eagles. Not that I am superstitious, it is just that when these things happen, it is like a personal SMILE from God, feeling Him close.
God is so good, and has a wonderful sense of humor at time. Thank You Jesus, for letting it all happen!!!!
We are so blessed, and so blessed to know there are more good people in the world than bad ones.
Peace, Ina
This story put a smile on my face, as a very similar event recently happened to me. Thanks for sharing!
This is such a beautiful story, so well told to begin with, and which gives us reassurance that God is with us all the way, all the time. I know He is with me, protecting me in His hands, for all I´ve been through and survived. Shannon´s feather story gives hope to the ones that every now and then despair!
Lovely my dear Shannon.
Oh that's just beautiful! I love stuff like this! And btw, I've been reading alot of books about angels recently and one of the ways they are supposed to show you that they are with you is by leaving feathers around. Well, last year was really difficult and I took alot of walks outside to just be in nature and clear my head, and almost every time I was walking back to my house, I found a feather on the pavement before my driveway! Angels and God indeed! :)
I loved the feather story too :)
It is amazing and comforting to consider that the dream cacher was purchased and wrapped and brought to her home before she had even made her request!
Isaiah 65:24
24 Before they call I will answer;
while they are still speaking I will hear.
My 18-year-old son, Todd, had died in June in a house fire. It was All Saint's Day, November 1, and I was sitting in the empty church after the service. I was praying for my son, praying that he was in heaven. In the quiet of the empty church, I heard Todd's voice clearly. "I am here, Mom. Where else would I be?" When I heard his voice, I knew he was okay. I still miss him, 30 years after his death, but I know I will see him again.
My cousin died in a car accident many years ago when she was about 11 years old. Her mom told us that she cried and cried and could not be comforted until one day she saw her daughter float straight up past her window. This was just what she needed at the time. A sign that her daughter was at peace and not as she remembered seeing her after the car accident. God is good and will help us through our grief it various ways.
I know this is true, this really happened to you. it's happened to me too.
kind regards, Chandra
I asked for a FOX to appear in my back yard the day after my mom died to give me reassurance that she was with Jesus and was okay with the ways things worked out surrounding her death. I had faith that all was well. I knew I didn't need the Fox to tell me all this but I asked anyway. About one hour later as I was leaving my addition a fox walked across the road in front of my car. It diffidently was a Fox. I was so excited it shouted THANK YOU LORD- I saw the FOX. The reason I asked for a FOX was because I had read a Guidepost article some months back about another lady who had asked for a fox to appear in her back yard after her son Todd had past away. Todd means fox in old English language. I wish I could find that article I would love to read it again. Faith increased by a simple sign- the FOX.
Wow Thanks for the story. All through the Bible we see God understands we humans need a sign sometimes. It isn't that we don't have faith. A sign increases our faith. He didn't just give you one feather but a dream catcher full. Isn't that just like our Lord!!!
The Lord knew that she was going to ask for a
feather before she asked for one; and provided
more than she asked for.
That's awesome!
I loved loved loved this feather story!
I am a believer, but this certainly clinched it! A dream catcher covered in soft feathers!!! How lovely!!!
Quite the story!
Love, A Believer Forever!
