Rabbits are a familiar symbol of the Easter holiday. From candy to decorations, adorable bunnies are everywhere this season. Just because they’re cute, though, does not always mean they’re appropriate pets. Think over these considerations before you hop on over to buy a floppy-eared friend:

1. Give a chocolate bunny instead of a live one.
Make Mine Chocolate™, a campaign organized by the Columbus House Rabbit Society, educates about the realities of living with a rabbit, and seeks to discourage giving live rabbits as Easter gifts. Think chocolate instead!

2. Sponsor a bunny for Easter.
You’ll be helping homeless pets and teaching a valuable lesson if you sponsor a shelter rabbit in your child’s name. With 3 Bunnies Rabbit Rescue, you can even follow the progress of your bunny and know you were part of saving a life.

3. Check out your local shelter.
If you’ve done your research and are convinced that a rabbit is the right pet for your family, rescue a bunny from your local shelter.  Better yet, wait until after Easter when the shelter may be full of unwanted rabbits.

4. Search on Petfinder.
Petfinder  is your source for locating cats and dogs in need of adoption all across the country. But did you know that they also list small pets, including rabbits? This is a great stop for pet rabbit “hunting”!

5. Help spread the word.
Whether by word of mouth, or through social media, you can help spread the word. Share this article on Facebook.  If you’re a blogger, write a blog about rabbit adoption.
