In the early 1980s, Pearl Fryer began creating his garden, which is filled with whimsical topiary. His work has since received great acclaim, and Pearl was even the subject of an award-winning documentary, A Man Called Pearl (2006).
Pearl's garden features more than 400 shrubs and trees, many discarded by local nurseries, which he has transformed into what he has called "shapes of soothing beauty, patterns of shadow and light."
