This song has many memories for me. The first time I heard it was shortly after a co-worker was telling me about her brother. He went to Nam like so many of our young men and young women did in the late 60s and early 70s. The young man came in contact with Agent Orange while over there. He received a medical discharge because of his health. A couple of years after he returned he was taking treatment for cancer. Bridge Over Troubled waters became his favorite song, or at least one he listened to most often when his treatments made him so sick and as his body started shuting down system by system, he played it almost continuously.
When my husband was diagnosed with cancer this song and Sentimental Journey became two songs on his daily play list. In less than eleven months after his cancer was diagnosed he was gone. At his funeral I requested that two songs be played -- Bridge Over Troubled Waters and One Day at a Time.
Now I remember the good years and happy memories of my life with my husband when I hear the songs.
