A good TV show never gets old and Netflix is proving that by offering a bunch of beloved classics for fans to stream. Workplace sitcoms, sci-fi thrillers, space adventures, and small-town dramas, there’s something for everyone who’s feeling a bit nostalgic for old school entertainment. So sit back and binge these timeless TV series available on Netflix now.
The Andy Griffith Show might be as wholesome and American as you can get on TV. The series followed Griffith, a single dad and the sheriff of a small North Carolina town as he navigated parenting his young son and dealing with eccentric townspeople. His clumsy but well-meaning deputy Barney Fife provided plenty of humor as did his son Opie (Ron Howard) who got into plenty of mischief while growing up.
Michael Landon might be best known for his work on Little House on the Prairie but it’s another TV series that’s getting love from Netflix. In Highway to Heaven, Landon plays Jonathan Smith, an angel stripped of his wings and sent to Earth to partner with a human (Landon’s Little House co-star Victor French) and carry out holy assignments from God.
This beloved sitcom may have first aired in the 80s but, like fine wine, it’s only gotten better with age. Watching Ted Danson play Sam Malone, a former baseball pro and struggling alcoholic manage a local bar, his unruly coworkers and friends kept us all laughing through the 11 seasons the show was on the air. Now Netflix is giving fans a chance to relive the humor, heartbreak, and social commentary the show was famous for.
In the late 60s, Gene Roddenberry introduced us to the final frontier with his sci-fi series that followed a group of space pioneers as they explored the outer limits. William Shatner played maverick and lothario James T. Kirk, the captain of the USS Enterprise while Leonard Nimoy played his faithful, intellectual sidekick Commander Spock. Netflix has all three seasons available for streaming but if that’s not enough space action for you, there are other Star Trek generations to stream once you’re done.
Friends became a cultural phenomenon when the sitcom aired in the mid-90s and Netflix knows that no matter how many times fans have seen the show, they’ll never get enough of Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, and Chandler – a group of friends living in New York and navigating life together with hilarious results.
