Jakob Salvati and Tom Wilkinson in "Little Boy"

The Academy Awards are coming up this weekend. And since miracles are never too far from my mind, I decided to do a round-up of some of my favorite movies featuring “mysterious ways” elements–voices, not-so-chance encounters, the forces of destiny, obstacles of Biblical proportions and, of course, that mysterious thing called love.

Here are my 7 wonder-filled film picks. Which movies would you add to the list?

1)  Little Boy
I saw Little Boy recently over the holidays and it had me crying like a baby. It’s about a small kid with BIG faith who makes the impossible happen…get your tissues ready!

2)  While You Were Sleeping
Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. And perhaps the ultimate “mysterious ways” love story–a series of misunderstandings and mix-ups that somehow leads to two people falling in love.

3)  Field of Dreams
This movie really has it all. Strange voices, prophetic dreams, the hereafter, a complex father-son relationship, baseball and, yes, Kevin Costner. A classic that shows there are just some things in this world that can’t be explained.

4)  Inside Out
What is it about Pixar films that just hit you at your very core? Even though it’s technically for kids, this movie really opens your eyes to the fascinating complexity of the human brain…not to mention our ingenious creator!

5)  It’s a Wonderful Life
I must confess, I have a permanent crush on Jimmy Stewart so I’m a little biased. Even so, perhaps no movie better demonstrates how every act of kindness–no matter how insignificant–can make a huge impact.

6)  Serendipity
Two strangers meet over a pair of gloves at Bloomingdale’s and eventually find their way back to each other through a string of “coincidences” in New York City. Okay, I know it’s just a movie, but every time I watch it, my hope in finding a soul mate is renewed!

7)  Miracle
The name says it all. An inspiring movie based on the 1980 U.S. men’s hockey team’s unlikely journey to Olympic gold. A true underdog tale…and we all know God has a soft spot for underdogs!
