106-Year-Old Man Sets Zip Lining World Record

Meet the man who celebrates his birthdays by making history.

Jack Reynolds while zip lining

Jack Reynolds, great great grandfather, recently set the Guinness World Record for being the oldest person in history to complete a zip line.

Reynolds is no stranger to making history. Previously, he’s made the Guinness Book of World Records for being the oldest person to ride a non-inversion roller coaster and the oldest person to receive their first tattoo. When he was 102, he became the oldest person to complete the ice bucket challenge.

Reynolds uses his daring escapades to raise money for charity. This year he raised almost $2,000.00 for the Stroke Association.

“It has become somewhat of a tradition that on my birthday I use my new age to help raise money for worthy charities,” Reynolds wrote on his Just Giving page.

Reynolds traveled to Grizedale in the UK to complete this year’s challenge. Mark McKinley, a representative from Guinness World Records, witnessed Reynolds’ ride and gave him a certificate lauding his accomplishment.

“This is the third birthday I’ve spent with you and this is the most impressive yet,” he said to Reynolds, according to Guinness World Records. “You never fail to impress.”

When asked how zip lining compared to his previous birthday celebrations, Reynolds said it was different—but better.

“It’s been a really good day today,” he said. “It’s been perfect.”
