Temptations—Not a Problem

How to avoid unhealthy temptations on special occasions.

After attending a recent bridal shower where there were many delectable delicacies, I was asked by several curious friends how I managed to overcome temptations.

Many inquisitively asked, “Aren’t you tempted to eat that luscious cake or that wonderful dip?”

I simply responded, “No, I am not hungry, and I’m just not tempted.”

How is it that I am not tempted? By eating a daily diet which is full of fruits and vegetables that give my body the proper nutrients it needs each day. These healthy habits help me resist temptations.

In addition, Julie told me I should eat a healthy snack of fruits, vegetables or nuts before attending a function. Another trick I’ve learned is to stay away from the mouth-watering cuisine, and instead mingle and talk with others far away from the food. Chewing sugar free gum or a mint will also help avoid those temptations.

The most important thing to remember is that you never begin eating something unhealthy especially if you’re not hungry. You may start out thinking that you’ll just try that one cookie and that one little cookie won’t hurt anything; however, that one can turn into six. Therefore, just don’t start.

So keep healthy nutritious foods stocked in your refrigerator and carry healthy snacks with you throughout the day, so when a situation arises you can be ready to fight off the temptation.

1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, “but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” Make your way of escape through eating nutritiously on a daily basis. You just might find that you are no longer tempted as well.
