I’m Holly Lebowitz Rossi, writer of the Guideposts blog, A Positive Path.

Fall is my favorite season and these first nips of cool air call out for my favorite fashion accessory, a smartly tied scarf. These are my three favorite ways to stay cute and cozy all autumn with a scarf.
This scarf is polyester, no cashmere needed here. And as you can see, it’s got a sweet bird pattern on it, but these techniques will work with cotton, wool or any other oblong scarf that strikes your fancy or is waiting in your closet.

We’ll start with The Pretzel. Gather your scarf at the middle and let it fold into a gentle U shape. Drape the U around your neck like this. Now tease out one of the ends, the loose ends, and pull it through the loop. Pick up the other loose end and pull it under the loop and tuck it back through. Finish in a loose, knotted formation that looks kind of fancy and polished, but is actually super easy.

Next, The Cowl Neck, because sometimes I want my scarf to be really cozy around my neck. And on those days I start by draping the scarf at an offset length over my shoulder. I want one end, one of the short ends, to fall around my belly button. Then I take the long end and wrap it around my neck, back over the opposite shoulder. Now I could just leave this look here, fluff it up and head out the door. But for an easy cowl neck look, I’ll just tie the two ends into a loose single knot, and then loosen the neck wrap, tuck the knot up into this and be ready to go with any lovely, cozy cowl.

Now finally, The Infinity. this is a great way to finish an outfit with a scarf, If you don’t want it too close to your neck. Now, you start by draping the scarf around your neck evenly. And this is the only way that I wear a scarf where I actually tie the ends together. I’m going to grab my two ends, tie them into not too tight, but a real knot. And now I basically have a long necklace. I’m going to cross the loop in the middle so that I have a figure eight or an infinity symbol. And then I pick it up at the knot and pull it over my head like a necklace. And then I have my infinity that I can fluff in any way. If I have a corner hanging, I can make it look almost like a bandana and I am ready to roll.

I’m wishing you enjoyment, lots of cute scarves and a very cozy autumn.
