Celebrating Summer in the City

Even in the streets of downtown Manhattan, one can look beyond the skyscrapers and exhult in a beautiful summer sky.

The air the angels breathe

Today is a beautiful day in downtown Manhattan. I spent my lunch hour looking up, but not at the tall buildings like I did for years after moving here. I craned my neck wayyy back so I could see the sky beyond those penthouses with rooftop terraces. How could I describe such beauty? Back at my computer, I hunted around for an answer.

To see the Summer Sky

Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie –

True Poems flee.

                Emily Dickinson

The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn’t it be? – it is the same the angels breathe.

                Mark Twain

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.

                e.e. cummings

Yes! That’s how I feel exactly!
