In the middle of life's storms, God's help is on the way.

The image on the television screen was scary.

The South has been deluged with rain for the past week or so. Rain of epic, record-breaking proportions. I’ve been glued to the news, shaking my head in disbelief as I’ve watched the mind-boggling footage of the devastation caused by the flooding.

And that’s what led to the frightening image on my television. During the evening hours, a man had driven down a road. Something that all of us have done on countless occasions. But this time, something happened that he’ll never forget.

The rushing water from a swollen stream had washed out the culvert under the road, and suddenly—too quick for him to stop—the road was gone. The driver slammed on the brakes, watching in horror as his car plunged into the gaping hole where the road had once been.

Another man who was out in his yard heard the shouting for help and discovered the driver holding onto a tree in the middle of the churning water. Thankfully, the man survived and was rescued.

Can you imagine how happy he must have been when help showed up that night?

I thought about how often we face difficult storms of life, times when we’re blindsided by circumstances, days when we get one of “those” phone calls that can change our lives forever.

I suspect that many of you are in the middle of one of those storms. So here are some of God’s sweet and precious promises to encourage you today:

  • When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you... (Isaiah 43:2)
  • For You have been a strength to the poor, A strength to the needy in his distress, A refuge from the storm... (Isaiah 25:4)
  • And there will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge and for a shelter from storm and rain. (Isaiah 4:6)
  • The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him. (Nahum 1:7)
  • For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Hang on to His promises, sweet friends. Help is on the way!
