Carried by a Loving Father

Keep these 4 Bible verses in mind when you’re tired and weary and feel as if you can’t go on.

Carried by the father.

The sight in front of me melted my heart. My two-year-old grandson, Nolan, stood there, arms raised up. “Grandmommy, get me!” We were walking down a long aisle at church, and he was tired and wanted me to carry him. How could I resist that sweet face?

The moment reminded me of one that happened many years before when his daddy was a little boy. Our family went for a walk each evening after dinner, enjoying the scenic country roads near our home. Those were some great times as we talked and laughed together, savoring the time with our boys as they skipped rocks across the road and chased after squirrels and rabbits along the way.

A steep hill came near the end of our walk, arriving at a time when our littlest guy was usually getting weary. I’ll never forget the night Jason looked up at his daddy and said, “Can you carry me? My legs are getting rusty.” It’s been many years, but in the snapshots in my heart, I can still see my husband carrying our little buddy home.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had many times in my life when my legs were getting rusty. Physically, yes, but more often spiritually and emotionally. Times when I didn’t feel like I could take another step or make it through another day. Times when I was so weary of the struggles of life that there was nothing left in me to finish the journey.

And that’s when I’ve done just what precious Nolan and Jason did. I raised my arms to my heavenly Father and said, “Will You carry me?”

I can’t tell you how many times He’s done that through the difficult moments of my life, but I can say that He’s always been there for me whenever I needed Him. And I can tell you without any doubts that He will do the same for you—because He’s given those promises to us in His Word:

1)  Even to your old age I am He, and to gray hairs I will carry you. (Isaiah 46:4)

2)  Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

3)  The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. (Psalm 145:18)

4)  Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Sweet friends, do you have “rusty legs” tonight? Is your heart weary? Then reach out to the one who has promised to carry you.
