Celebrate a Holiday Each Day of the Year

Nothing puts a little pep in your step like National Cream-Filled Doughnut Day.

Add a little wonder to your day by celebrating a holiday each day of the year.

The other day my colleague Dan Hoffman and I were looking up random holidays.

We were stunned to find out that there was a holiday on pretty much every day of the year, from National Wear Your Pearls Day (December 15) to National Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor’s Porch Day (August 8).

That got me thinking. What if every day was celebrated like a holiday? Would it make even ordinary, dreary days more wondrous?

I decided to find out. “I’m going to celebrate a holiday a day,” I told Dan.

And for a whole work week that’s exactly what I did. I brought donuts to the office on National Cream-Filled Donut Day. I learned how to make paper flowers on National Online Learning Day. I even channeled my inner Captain Hook on Talk Like a Pirate Day.

My days didn’t suddenly become stress-free or filled with fireworks. But ordinary work days certainly felt more extraordinary, especially when my colleagues got in on the fun (there’s just something lovely about witnessing your co-workers talking like pirates!).

So often life passes by in a blur. But my little experiment proved to me that there’s something wonderful to celebrate each and every day of the year.

Here are some upcoming holidays for the month of October–which ones are you most excited to celebrate?

October 1: National Homemade Cookies Day

October 2: National Name Your Car Day

October 5: National Do Something Nice Day

October 9: Clergy Appreciation Day

October 10: National Handbag Day

October 12: National Stop Bullying Day

October 15: National I Love Lucy Day

October 23: National Mother-in-Law Day

October 29: National Cat Day

October 30: National Candy Corn Day
