Choose to see today through the lens of beauty.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
I am a great fan of letting things slide. Laundry. Dishes. Doctors’ appointments. Flu shots. Washing the car. Washing the children. They don’t seem to mind. But sometimes this approach doesn’t yield the results I long for.
Like life with an empty kitchen sink and children that smell like roses. But I think that letting things slide can be a great life strategy. I think I need to be strategic about what I let slide. Like wondering what people are thinking about me and focusing on the negative. Those things can slide. Irritability? Anger? Nagging? Whining? Worrying? Slide.
And the things I can’t afford to let slide? Laughing. Walking with my friends. Noticing the turning colors of the leaves. Finding more recipes with dark chocolate. Kissing my boys. Dating Scott. Loving Jesus. These are the things I should never let slide. These are the wonderful things of life that I want to focus on.
I want to focus on the beauty of life and let the things slide that suck the joy out of my day. Jesus has given us the great gift of life. He has given us these days to live out. We don’t really get to choose what our days look like. But we can choose the lens that we look at them through. We can choose to focus on the beauty and goodness of our days and let the rest slide... or we can focus on the ugly things in life and get bogged down in the muck of negativity.
Faith Step: Join me in letting things slide...and choose to see today through the lens of beauty. Tell Jesus all the things in your life that bring you joy and fill you with peace.
