If there is anything good and worth giving thanks for, think about these things.—Philippians 4:8 (NLV)

I’d been counting down the days to my vacation for months. Finally, all that stood between me and lazing by the pool with some of the people I love most in this world was one two-hour flight. At least, that was the plan.

Then came the airline update. My nonstop flight from Colorado to Arizona had been rescheduled. I’d now be enjoying a seven-hour layover in Las Vegas. My joyous anticipation began a downward slide into a mire of disappointment, frustration, and anger. I took a deep breath and did the only thing I could do, besides pray. I changed my T-shirt.

I have quite the collection of inspirational tees, sporting messages from “Make a difference today” to “She believed she could, but she needed a break, so she said, ‘No.’” I don’t wear them to inspire others but to challenge myself. After all, how can I give a fellow driver the stink eye if I’m wearing a tee that says, “Sprinkle kindness like confetti”?

Today, I chose “Life is good.” Because, thanks to God, it is. Sometimes, it’s hard, but it’s still good. And spending several hours wandering through an airport isn’t even “hard.” It’s just boring. Talk about a First World problem. When I finally made it to Phoenix and sat down to enjoy a ten o’clock dinner with friends, I arrived with both my luggage and my positive attitude intact. Life is good, when I keep my heart and mind focused on what matters most.
