3 New Ways to Pray with Others

Become an OurPrayer volunteer and make a difference in someone’s life.

For most of us, prayer is a very private thing. We do it best when we’re alone, where no one might overhear, which is just the way Jesus said to do it. (Matthew 6:6)

But there is also great power and blessing in praying with others. Jesus said, “If two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, then my Father who is in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I’m there with them.” (Matthew 18:19-20, CEB)

Did you know you can do that regularly even if you’re shy or introverted? Even if you hate talking in front of other people? Even if you are confined to your home by sickness or circumstance? You can do it online. You can do it on the phone. Or you can do it all by yourself.

In fact, right now Guideposts’ OurPrayer ministry is looking for volunteers to pray for the many requests they receive every month. Over the last 60 years, OurPrayer has prayed for millions of requests.

In just one hour a week, from your home or office, you can connect with people in need and pray for them…and know that your prayers are making a difference.

You can choose one of these options to become a prayer volunteer:

1)  Pray Online
Prayer volunteers are given access to a secured online area to pray. You can pray as you view the request or print it for later reflection. This option offers the most flexibility whenever and wherever you have the time.

2)  Pray on the Phone
Prayer line volunteers are trained to listen to the concerns of callers and pray with them by name and need. Toll-free prayer line calls are forwarded to your number at a scheduled time for a minimum of one to two hours each week.

3)  Write Prayers Online
You will be trained to write personal prayer responses to those who contact OurPrayer. Responses are then emailed to the person who requested prayer through the OurPrayer system (this protects your privacy).

Volunteers are asked to indicate their agreement with the OurPrayer Statement of Faith and covenant to pray faithfully and act confidentially before beginning their volunteer efforts.

Go to the OurPrayer volunteer pages, and soon you will be enriching your own spiritual experience while making a difference in the lives of others in need of prayer.
