How to use prayer to transform your fear into faith.
You may know that an oft-repeated phrase in the Bible is “fear not” (it appears 71 times in the King James Version of the Bible). No matter how often we hear it, there are still occasions when our hearts quail and quake with fear. There is no better time to turn to prayer than these moments. Simply breathing—or even thinking—one of the following Bible prayers can calm and strengthen our hearts and minds, and turn us from fear to faith:
1) Based on Joshua 1:9, NLT
God, you have commanded me to be strong and courageous! Let me not be afraid or discouraged. Remind me that the Lord my God is with me wherever I go.
2) Psalm 23:4, NIV
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
3) Psalm 27:1, NIV, Slightly Revised
You, Lord, are my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
You, Lord, are the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
4) Based on Psalm 34:4, NIV
I seek you, Lord; answer me;
deliver me from all my fears
5) Psalm 46:1-2, NIV, Slightly Revised
God, you are our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea
6) Psalm 56:1, NIV
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you
7) Psalm 118:6-7, NIV, Slightly Revised
Lord, you are with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
Lord, you are with me; you are my helper
8) Isaiah 12:2, NIV, Slightly Revised
Surely, God, you are my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
You, Lord, you yourself, are my strength and my defense;
You have become my salvation
9) Based on John 14:27
Jesus, peace you have left with me; your peace you have given to me—not as the world gives. Do not let my heart be troubled and help me not to be afraid
10) 2 Timothy 1:7, NLT, Slightly Revised
God, you have not given me a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline
