St. Francis of Assisi abandoned a life of luxury for a life of faith. He was born into a wealthy family around 1181 and spent his early adulthood enjoying parties and charming friends. In his 20s, he heard the voice of God call him to a life of poverty and service. He became a saint in 1228. Today, he is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment. We hope you find inspiration in these quotes, attributed to or inspired by St. Francis.
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith.
If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.
Above all the grace and the gifts that Christ gives to His beloved is that of overcoming self.
Blessed are those who endure in peace for by You, Most High, shall they be crowned.
Praise be you, my Lord, through our sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us.
