Inspiring Others with Scripture and Love

A Georgia woman has made a ministry of sharing her faith by sharing biblical verses.

Some items from Louise's Scripture Love Kit

In a recent Guideposts story, my friend Kathy Dillard told of my practice of giving away Scripture Love Kits to, as Kathy wrote, “friends, family, people on the church prayer list, whoever needs an encouraging reminder of all the promises in Scripture.”

Since 1983, when I gave out the first one, I have given away 522 kits. Originally they contained 7 items; I now include 71.

I’ve kept a list of everyone to whom I have given a kit and have a stack of notes from people who received them. I truly feel this is my ministry, and a most rewarding one! I feel blessed to perform this service. But you know, when Warren, my husband of 53 years, died in 2010, I forgot to send one to myself!.

On the back of a notecard that I include with each kit, I write a personal note and a message: “Go often to the word of God. As in Hebrews 13:5, He says ‘I will never leave thee or forsake thee’.” This was the way my brother Arthur DeVane, a minister, closed his radio broadcast on The Lighthouse Radio Broadcast.

When I have a person to send a kit to, I put the items in a decorative bag and send it out. You can use the attached PDF, which includes the verses and items I use, for inspiration to create your own kits!
