A Pawsome Family Portrait

Meet the four-legged family members of our new blogger

Peggy Frezon and her pawsome family!

Here’s my stick-figure family. The short one with the book is me. Next is my husband, our son (with the lopsided Yankees cap), our daughter and son-in-law (check out the hearts).

Then, notice those crazy oblong shapes with funny ears, four little stick legs and long curly tails, wagging away? There’s no way I could draw my family without including our pets. Dogs and cats simply complete the picture.

We love our pets so much, in part because the relationship is reciprocal. We provide them food, shelter and affection (For the righteous care for the needs of their animals… Proverbs 12:10), and they give us companionship, acceptance, and devotion. We bless each other.

Pawprints on my Heart is a blog about the human-animal bond. We can learn about ourselves by observing the enthusiasm with which a kitten plays, or the openness in the way a dog greets a friend. Sharing our lives with God’s creatures brings us closer to Him.

I’d like to introduce you to my furry family:

Kelly, a 13-year-old cocker spaniel/long-haired dachshund mix. Kelly is gentle, cuddly, and has helped me through the empty nest syndrome and struggles with dieting (and we lost weight together!).

I also believe Kelly suffers from a case of mistaken identity. She has an independent streak with a bit of a superior attitude, and a penchant for perching on window sills and the backs of chairs. Clearly, she thinks she’s a cat.

Ike, a 9-year-old golden retriever. We adopted Ike when he was 8 years old, after his having been a bit of a delinquent in his former home. You wouldn’t notice any of that delinquency now, as Ike is a perfect gentleman, deferring to bossy Kelly and playing tenderly with puppy Zeke (you’ll meet him soon.)

Ike is a Velcro dog–he follows me around the house and climbs into my lap for a nap. I can always count on his gentle presence to calm me in times of stress.

You’ll also meet my grandcat, Cinnamon (6-year old tortie-tabby), my granddog, Zeke (4 month old golden puppy) and Misty, my mom’s 12-year-old gray tiger cat. We’ll check in on amazing furry friends and animals in the news, and discover why they make us laugh, and sometimes cry.

I hope you’ll come back and visit, and that you’ll find this a place where we can share our love of all the special critters in our lives.
