My girls went off to their first day of school this morning with butterflies in their stomachs and guardian angels on their shoulders. And it seems the angels did a very good job!

Evie reported that fifth grade is going to be her best year yet. Her three best friends are in her class, and of course she loves her teacher. (Evie always loves her teacher.) But the best news of all? No homework tonight!

Louisiana, a sophomore in high school, had homework due on her first day. But she was pleased to get into both the honors courses she signed up for, as well as the photography class she wanted. Ever since she discovered Instagram, her phone is always at the ready for another photo op. I don’t think she eats anything anymore without taking a picture of it first. Food, her cats and her little sister are her favorite subjects. “Look for angels,” I tell her. One day she may surprise me.

So the first day of school is behind us, and with the help of guardian angels the rest of the year will be a cinch.
