Bible verses, prayers and stories for comfort and hope
- Posted on Sep 8, 2017
Millions of people are coping with the effects of Hurricane Irma. While the hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm and is losing strength, it continues to batter the Southeastern United States. Across the Caribbean and Florida, it left more than three dozen people dead, devastated countries, flooded cities and prompted the largest evacuation in U.S. history.
Even those not directly affected by the storm were worried about family, friends, and loved ones in the storm’s path. For millions in Texas and along the Gulf Coast who are beginning to assess their losses from Hurricane Harvey, just one week ago, there is also great fear and uncertainty.
"Thank You all. Every book, magazine, and letter means a lot to us when we are away from home. It gives us hope, confidence, happiness, strength and pride that someone is there for us." - Former Navy Sailor, Part of Operation Gratitude
These have been anxious and frightening days for many.
We know that in times of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, we can turn to the Bible and to prayer, which have sustained people for centuries. They offer us find comfort and hope.
We have collected some beloved collections of prayers and Bible verses below, with the hope they will sustain you during these days.
We have grouped these collections by the topics they address most directly. Under the heading of stress, we have also added two stories that offer practical advice from experts. One focuses on coping with disaster from a distance and the other offers advice on talking with children.
We hope these stories bring you comfort, and we invite you to submit your prayers here.
