My husband and I hurried to our granddaughter Megan’s wedding reception, only to encounter a long line at the door. What was the holdup? Peeking around the crowd, I saw her parents’ family Bible on the front table.

A sign asked, “Please highlight your favorite scripture and put your name by it.”

Fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22–23 popped into my head, but I wasn’t really sure why. Still, I underlined the verse and wrote “Nana” in the page’s margin.

Afterward, it hit me. Before Megan was born, her mother (my daughter) and I had asked God to instill her with the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Recently I’d prayed that Megan and her husband would have a faith-filled marriage. I imagined them flipping through their Bible in good times and bad, drawing encouragement from everyone who supported their union, and I knew my prayers had been answered.
