Ask An Expert About the Science of Faith

How having faith can help you live longer.

Lisa Miller

We have some exciting news in Mysterious Ways land! On Wednesday, June 7 at 2 p.m. ET, we’ll be having a special Facebook Live event with Dr. Lisa Miller, best-selling author of The Spiritual Child: The New Science on Parenting for Health and Lifelong Thriving and founder of Columbia University’s Spirituality & Mind Body Institute. She’ll be answering questions on the Mysterious Ways Facebook page about everything from what science tells us about faith to whether or not kids have more “mysterious ways” experiences than adults.

You might remember Dr. Miller from a recent Q&A featured in Mysterious Ways magazine about childhood and spirituality. I was lucky enough to interview Dr. Miller for the piece and was astounded by the many, many health benefits of faith that her research has uncovered.

For example, did you know that spirituality can actually help you live longer? It’s true! It can even change the way your brain looks.

According to Dr. Miller, research shows that “adults with a sustained spiritual life had thickness in the parietal, occipital and precuneus regions of the brain, the same areas where you see thinness in those with recurring depression.”

Dr. Miller will be talking about the science of faith and more fascinating topics at our Facebook Live Event. Visit Mysterious Ways on Facebook on June 7 at 2 p.m. ET to ask Dr. Miller questions in real-time. Or, submit a question in advance by emailing MW@guideposts.org
