Ruth Graham: Stay Focused on God

When we remember who God is, our worries tend to dissipate, says Graham.

Guideposts Video: Inspiring True Stories

[GENTLE PERCUSSIVE MUSIC] For me, staying focused on God means staying in the scripture. And I have scriptures posted in my bathroom. I have it in my car so that when I’m– I tend to be a worrier, and I begin to mull things over, and things get bigger and bigger and bigger. And then I have to call myself back to the scripture. And it might be sitting right there on my dashboard or on my mirror or on my desk to remind myself of the truths of who God is, that God is there, that he is faithful.

And I list in the book attributes of God, you know, starting with– you know, with ABC lists. You know, He’s almighty. He’s all-sufficient. He is beautiful. He’s bountiful. He’s compassionate. He’s caring. He is delightful. He desires me. He is eternal.

Go through the alphabet, and focus on who God is. And when we do that, the worry tends to dissipate. It’s not a cure-all, but I think as long as we stay focused on Jesus– the scripture says, “Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on me.” And when we stay our mind on– if we stay focused on God, then everything else falls into perspective, and we– we find peace.
