Everyday Joy: Bible Verses for Appreciating Sunsets

While dealing with uncertainty all around us, we still have beautiful sunsets.

Every evening since we’ve been at home—mostly sheltering-in-place—we take a walk to see the sun set. Gosh, there are so many tragic things happening to people in this time, but then I also find myself giving thanks for the joys of each day.

Like the sunset. Who knew how beautiful it could be? We live in New York City on the island of Manhattan, in the middle of millions of people, but not far from our apartment we can gaze out at the Hudson River and watch the sun.

Here are five Bible Verses to match five different sunsets seen over the last few days. Don’t they make you want to give thanks, too? And gaze at your own view of the sun setting.

Psalm 113:3 for a sunset

1 of 5 Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Genesis 1:5 for a sunset

2 of 5 Genesis 1:5

God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”

Psalm 27:1 for a sunset

3 of 5 Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvationwhom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my lifeof whom shall I be afraid?

John 12:35 for a sunset

4 of 5 John 12:35

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you.”

Psalm 65:8 for a sunset

5 of 5 Psalm 65:8

The whole earth is filled with awe at Your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
