The Good News in God’s Word

The Bible begins and ends with wonderful news.

Mornings with Jesus Devotional Writer, Renee Andrews

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (NIV)

“Which do you want first, the good news or the bad?”

Have you ever been asked that popular question? I have, and I’m typically a bad news first kind of person. I want to get the bad over with, so I can end with the good. The Bible is filled with good news and bad news.

In the beginning, we get the good news first. God’s glorious creation is described in beautiful detail. But soon after, we get the bad news when sin enters the world. In Romans 3:23, we’re told the bad news first. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

But then in the very next verse, Romans 3:24 bellows the good news, “And all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Likewise, 2 Corinthians 4:16 says that “though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” And Romans 5:19 spells it out clearly: Because one person (Adam) disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person (Christ) obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

Isn’t it wonderful when you end with good news? Isn’t it powerful that we know we can end with good news, when we follow our Lord and Savior and enter His kingdom for eternity?
