Susan Karas Shares the Inspiration Behind Her Prayers

Susan Karas on what motivates her prayers.

Guideposts Video: Inspiring True Stories

I guess the person who made a big difference in my prayer life is my sister, Barb. For one thing, she is the person who actually got me into Christianity, not religion but a Christian life. And she is always there to help me when I feel like a prayer isn’t being answered quick enough or God doesn’t hear me.

And she just prays like I’m talking to you. And she said, just have conversations with God. You don’t need an appointment. You don’t need to be wordy. And she feels that the most powerful prayer is the written prayer. Like, when you really, really want something to write it out, dear God, and write out everything that you want specifically.

And I know that it worked, because I wrote God a letter about wanting to move out of our old neighborhood because it was getting rough. People’s cars were getting stolen. My daughter’s car got vandalized. And she said, just write it down.

And then a year later, I was still waiting. And I was at my sister’s, at the same place I wrote the letter, and my cell phone rang. And it was my husband, Bruce. And he said, Sue, guess what? I found our new house. And it was just so incredible. And when I went and saw the house, it had every single thing that was on my list, down to the color of shutters on the house. So amazing. So I would say she influenced me the most.
