Disaster Relief in Haiti

Relief organizations worldwide are mobilizing. You can too.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake that ravaged the small island nation of Haiti and its capital city, Port-au-Prince, on January 12, 2010, relief organizations worldwide rallied to provide much-needed aid.

The need for assistance persists in that impoverished country, and you can help. Here is a list of humanitarian aid organizations that are taking donations to help relieve suffering in the areas hit affected by the earthquake. Additionally, you can offer up prayers on Guideposts’ prayer website and on our community boards.

OurPrayer.org 
OurPrayer, a service of Guideposts, is a community of faith, uniting people from all over the world through prayer and devotion. Visit their page devoted to the Haitian disaster and offer up your prayers for those affected by the earthquake.

Children’s Hunger Fund
This non-profit organization is working to bring food, aid and hope to those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. They have already released  boxes of food for use in the relief effort. In addition, they are preparing to ship bottled water and more emergency food.

Samaritan’s Purse
This international Christian relief and evangelical organization provides spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, poverty, natural disaster, and disease.  The organization has dispatched an emergency team that will focus on providing medical help, shelter, clean water and hygiene supplies.

World Vision
This Christian humanitarian organization works with children and families worldwide. They’re asking for people to pray for the victims of the earthquake, and to make donations online. According to its website, World Vision is still assessing the damage to determine what relief efforts are necessary.
