Whether it’s financial, emotional, or physical, we all face change in our daily lives. How wonderful it is to know that, despite what comes your way, you are in the loving care of a Heavenly Father, “who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17).

From the moment we are born, our bodies are constantly changing—or we couldn’t grow and develop. Our ideas are constantly changing. We get new jobs and habits and friends, for which we can often thank God. Of course, not all changes are welcome ones.

Often we are faced with events that fill us with dismay. God loves us and wants to be near us in times of trouble and change. Isaiah 63:9 assures us, “In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them….” And in Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us into his loving care: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Know that whatever changes come your way, you can face them with optimism and confidence. The Bible promises us: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1) and “All things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28). My father once told about a little boy who was constantly pushed around by an overgrown bully who lived on his street.

One day the father of this little boy discovered him on their front porch looking through the large end of the telescope he had given him. When his dad told the boy he had it turned the wrong way, this small son answered, “But I’m looking at Harry, and I don’t want him to look any bigger. Looking at him this way, I’m making him look awful small, and I’m not afraid of him.”

A wise approach to difficulties or change is to look this way through your spiritual telescope. Fill your mind with thoughts of God, get his perspective on things. The Apostle Paul accomplished more for the spread of God’s Kingdom than anyone else, although he was constantly harassed, stoned, denounced and imprisoned. Yet he could say (and you can say with him):“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

God is on your side and he will give you the confidence to meet every change in your life confidently and victoriously!
