A change of scene can do wonders for your outlook.

1 of 9 Try a Change of Scenery

Get out of the house (or wherever you are) and get a different perspective. Sometimes a simple change of scenery can do wonders for a grumpy attitude. Go outside and enjoy God’s creation. Listen to the sound of a rushing river or enjoy a peaceful stream. Watch the birds and squirrels at play. Soak in the beauty of a sunset as God paints the sky.

Exercise can help boost your mood.

2 of 9 Move It

Even though you probably don’t want to do it, take a walk or bike ride. It really will make you feel better.

Keep your complaints in perspective.

3 of 9 Keep Your Perspective

When I was in the hospital for six weeks recovering from a broken hip and pelvic bone injury from a car wreck, I was feeling a little sorry for myself—until a young guy rolled past my room in the wheelchair that would be his for the rest of his life.

My recovery was slow, but at least I’d walk again. That moment really brought things into perspective. Look around, there’s always someone who has things worse than you.

Nothing can lift your spirits like playing with a child.

4 of 9 Play with a Child

Is there anything more wonderful than hearing a child laugh? There’s something magical about watching children play. Their sheer joy of life is contagious, and when they laugh, it’s impossible not to smile or laugh with them.

Doing something nice for someone else can lift your own spirits.

5 of 9 Shift Your Focus

Take a break from dwelling on your own circumstances and do something nice for somebody else.

Prayer truly does change things.

6 of 9 Pray About It

Pray about your circumstances. Ask someone else to pray for you as well. Pray for your family and friends . . . and your enemies. Prayer truly does change things.

Have big dreams? Write them down. Looking back, you'll be amazed at what God did for you.

7 of 9 Dream Big and Keep a Journal

Write down your dreams—even if they seem impossible now. It’s so awesome to look back with the beauty of hindsight and to see how God did amazing, unbelievable things in our lives—sometimes beyond our wildest dreams.

Turn up the volume and sing praises to God!

8 of 9 Crank It Up

Turn on some praise and worship music. Listen to the words and let them speak to your soul. Sing along and watch your attitude change for the better.

Count your blessings.

9 of 9 Don't Forget Your Blessings

Quit focusing on what’s wrong in your life. Instead count your blessings. Yes, even in the most difficult of times, there are still blessings.

In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. (Psalm 120:1)
